Yes It Does, Just Ask Rick Santorum

Easy post. Now that I've written the letter. Here's a letter to the editor and area wingnuts who read the Post Star and to a certain someone. Enjoy!

I haven't seen the movie about Chris Kyle, so I can't discuss that. I'd like to mention some other brave heroes who served in Iraq, and likely won't have movies made about them. Since March 2003, over 150 journalists and over 50 media support personnel have died there, in an effort to bring us the truth.

Despite their sacrifice, and the efforts of others like them, some in this country see fit to disparage the press. I appreciate the fourth estate. If they tell me we've turned Iraq into a Hobbesian hell-hole, it's because we have. I'm sorry for those who cannot accept that or other truths. When you use the term liberal media, I can't give your opinions any more respect than if you had mentioned 9/11 Truth, Obama's birth certificate or the Illuminati.

If someone can truly make the case for this grand conspiracy, then tell Congress to begin investigating immediately. They will, happily. In the meantime, could you drop me a few hints? Is it the wealthy owners or the reporters in the field or some nefarious group of jackals in between, who are pushing opinions ever leftward? Does anyone have in his hands, a list of names? Out of curiosity, does the internet have a liberal bias, as well?

And to my spell checker, Hobbesian is a fucking word.

Support The Underground Economy

I am a former homeowner and soon to be homeowner again. When leaving my former house I left a lot of stuff behind. As an apartment dweller there's not a great need for things like extension ladders. Now that the renting phase is coming to an end there is a growing need for tools. It would have been inconvenient to have lugged them around, but I don't want to pay full price either. The solution is, of course, to seek out those who are in the position that I was those long years ago and find garage sales.

Besides the natural benefit of paying less for the replacement tools than I would if buying them new is the feeling of helping out those who need to shed some possessions before moving on to the next phase of their life's adventure. There is also the thought of keeping solid waste out of our landfills. And last, and not insignificant, is robbing the taxman of some money. Despite my filthy, degenerate liberalism, I do still try to avoid taxes whenever possible.

Today's haul brought me a miter box and saw, a prybar, hammer, speed square, combo square and mattock to join my previously acquired hacksaw. Not really sure if I will need the mattock but I've got it if I do. Gardening is to be a big part of the next part of my life's adventure. I had a small hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, tape measure and some small stuff. My house-to-be is on the small side and is going to need at least a shed built and I'd like to add a small woodframe greenhouse as well.

OFF POST TOPIC: My office here is having a "contest" to pick the most favorite book. My five nominees (mostly first things that came to mind) were:

1) 1984 - George Orwell
2) Player Piano - Kurt Vonnegut
3) It Can't Happen Here - Sinclair Lewis
and to avoid going all dystopian all the time
4) The Deep Blue Goodbye - John D. MacDonald
5) Single and Single - John LeCarre

The only one I have much hope for is 1984. The others are a little obscure. Could have gone with Slaughterhouse Five, Elmer Gantry and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy or some such. There are brackets and additional voting though.

Regarding MacDonald, anyone who has missed the Travis Magee novels should really give them a try. His is the lifestyle I envy most, though I could never bring myself to live in Florida so will have to keep my derelict self abiding here in the empire state.

In Keeping with the Beer Theme

Had a few Magic Hats after the races in Saratoga Springs today to drown the sorrow of losing horribly and reinforcing the reasons I don’t gamble. Anyway, I felt a lot more liberal after a few and apparently they worked wonders for this guy, too. I’m thinking of sending a case of #9s over to American Power.

Adding Brewer to the Résumé

DSCN0247

Preparing to transfer a batch of wheat beer to the secondary fermenter where the apples await. I’m fairly new to the brewing, so I hope my Apple Wheat will turn out better than the strawberry and raspberry did. I used extracts for those. Extracts are the pits. Real fruit now. Was going to use blueberries, but the cost was prohibitive. I chopped up 2 and a half pounds of apples and threw in a can of Old Orchard Apple Raspberry concentrate for good measure.

BTW, if the prez is in the Glens Falls area, he can stop in for a homebrew and home baked bread anytime.
