Balancing the Budget on the Backs of Sinners

Here's the latest installment of the Kansas death and/or apocalypse watch.

Kansas would nearly triple its cigarette tax, raise taxes on alcohol and slow down promised income tax cuts to balance its budget under proposals Republican Gov. Sam Brownback outlined Friday.

Eeek! Tax hikes!

Brownback presented detailed recommendations to the GOP-dominated Legislature for eliminating projected shortfalls totaling more than $710 million in the current budget and for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

$710 million? How many smokers and drinkers do they have in Kansas? And do you hope for a lot in order to balance the budget or not a lot in the interest of general welfare?

Why people of Kansas? Why?
