And we do not need an Empire.

I'm not in favor of empire either and do agree that it likely doesn't affect our security. I feel some sympathy for those living in Eastern Europe, tho. Maybe Trump's disavowal of our NATO responsibilities will lead the countries of Western Europe to step in a little more.

In fact the CIA could be abolished, as libertarians and populist parties have advocated, and the same result.

I see value in intelligence gathering. I believe that prevents conflict in many cases. Prevention of the tragedy of 9/11 would have kept us out of the debacle of the Afghan War. I don't agree with the actions taken by the CIA in overthrowing govts and training brutal bastards such as SAVAK and police in Central America.

And the CIA was already politicized at the time of its gross "mistake" about the WMDs circa 2002.

I believe there was a lot of disagreement on those findings. The Bush people were going to war regardless of intel in that case. George Tenet had no backbone.

Kevin Robbinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10555818021469626619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-582101233593230587.post-70310861443837796202016-12-14T14:57:39.741-05:002016-12-14T14:57:39.741-05:00Russia could retake every acre of the old USSR and...Russia could retake every acre of the old USSR and it would not affect America the nation's security in the least.
